Meet the doctor
International patients

After the procedure there is no need to fly back: follow-up ultrasounds are performed where you live, with your radiologist, and Dr. Jacobo reviews them and speaks directly with whoever performs them.

The schedule

There are four checks in the first year, and all of them are performed in your country.

  1. 01The first follow-up ultrasoundYou have it performed in your country, with the radiologist you trust, and send us the report and the images.
  2. 02The second checkThe nodule is reabsorbed gradually; this check is compared with the first measurement.
  3. 03The third checkThis is when the reduction usually shows clearly, and when it is confirmed that the nodule is evolving as expected.
  4. 04The one-year checkIt closes the first year. From then on, a check every one or two years.

You have it performed with the radiologist you trust. Dr. Jacobo communicates directly with whoever performs the study and reviews the images.

Why it matters

Follow-up is part of the treatment.

The nodule does not disappear on the day of the procedure: it is reabsorbed over months. In published series, volume reduction at twelve months is around 70 % on median, and almost eight in ten nodules shrink by half or more. Symptom relief usually comes before the final figure.

Between 10 and 23 % of nodules regrow in long-term follow-up, and about 12 % need a second treatment. Seeing it in time on the ultrasound is what allows a calm decision: a second session or, in some cases, surgery.

The gland's function is watched too. It almost always keeps producing its hormone; in those with thyroid antibodies or a high TSH to begin with, it is watched more closely.

Sending them

How you send us each check.

  1. You have the ultrasound performed by your radiologistOn the scheduled date, with the radiologist you trust. It can be the same center where the first one was performed.
  2. You send us the report and the imagesBy WhatsApp or email to the practice. A photograph of the report taken with your phone is enough, and the images too, if the center gives them to you.
  3. Dr. Jacobo reviews them and repliesHe compares them with the previous measurements and explains how it is evolving. If your radiologist wants to talk to him, it is arranged.
If the nodule regrows

If it grows again, it shows on the checks and is decided calmly.

One to two in ten nodules regrow in long-term follow-up. That is why checks continue after the first year, every one or two years, and why each one is always compared with the previous measurement.

If yours grows again, we explain the options: a second session or, in some cases, surgery. Dr. Jacobo also operates on the thyroid, so the decision and the treatment stay in the same hands, and it is put in writing.

About follow-up

What people usually ask about follow-up.

  • No. You have the ultrasounds performed in your country and send them to us. If at any check you need to talk to the doctor, a virtual follow-up consultation is booked.

  • It happens in one to two in ten in long-term follow-up. It shows on the checks and is decided with you at that point: a second session or, in some cases, surgery. We tell you in writing.

  • Thyroid function (TSH and free T4) is checked during the first year, especially in the first months. You can get it done in your country and send it to us with the ultrasound.

  • It is arranged so they can speak directly with Dr. Jacobo. It is common after an ablation: the treated nodule changes in appearance and whoever measures it should know what to expect.

Is a check due?

If you want to talk to the doctor about a check, or you have not started yet and want to know whether the treatment is suitable for your case, the virtual consultation is the first step.
